Associate Professor Bernadette Ward, from Monash Rural Health, is leading an extensive research project in rural Victoria to study illicit drug use, named MIXMAX.
This study combines two established projects, SuperMIX and VMAX, focusing on people who inject drugs and methamphetamine (ice) smoking.
The research, conducted in partnership with the Burnet Institute and funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council, will initially focus on the Mildura region and aims to collect data on drug use, mental health, support services, and more, while respecting privacy and confidentiality. The study intends to provide valuable insights into drug use in rural areas to inform healthcare planning and support services.
